The new 'Trevena Square' in Tintagel, Cornwall. Designed by Michael Fairfax: Clients: Cornwall County Council, North Cornwall Arts. Although I conceived the design of the square, none of this would have been achieved without the collaboration of Ivor Matthews and his team at Cornwall County Council. Sue Richardson at North Cornwall Arts, who held the project together, organising the people I should meet, holding the purse strings and looking after my every needs. Arts Council England South West and English Heritage part funded some of the project. Creative Partnerships funded the 'On the shoulders of giants'; aspect. The team of creatives that made all this possible: Amanda White was appointed as writer on the scheme and created the words for the 'Wall of Words' which also fed into the 'Touchstones' (which will appear later) She worked with the children from Tintagel Primary School to produce the story for the book we devised 'The Tintagel Giant'. She worked with the community to research the words for the wall. Alistair Guy a furniture maker and boat builder from Cornwall who produced all the oak work in the scheme, his phenomenal craftmanship shines throughout the square. Cormac the contractors who did all the stone work to such a high degree, helped us when we were building the 'soundcairn'. De Lank who cut all the granite beautifully. Delabole and Trevellit quarries for supplying all the slate. Davina Kirkpatrick my mentee who mucked in and was often a sounding board. Charlie Tapper for his stonelaying craftsmanship, his enthusiam, artistic input, another sounding board and good spirits, especially in the rain, Paul Johnson his assistant and by default mine, unstinting labour in all conditions and artistic input. All the people of Tintagel. The Primary School and all the staff, assistants and children. This has been a great project. Thank you very much.
