FIDDLESTICKS

FIDDLESTICKS The ‘Fiddlesticks’ here came about from a commission by Bronwen Bradshaw for her “Amazing Spaces” exhibition to celebrate Dove Studios in Butleigh, Somerset. I arrived in april to pollard the willow trees and then create something from some of the branches. I decided to create individual fiddlesticks, each stick has one nylon string with two bridges to tension the string. Upon either plucking or bow with a violin bow sounds can be heard by placing ones ear to the ‘fiddlestick. These can be removed from the trees or played in situ. The exhibition ran from spring to autumn so the ‘Fiddlesticks’ looked different through the seasons with the foliage and lack of.
