The Geoneedle was commissioned by Devon County Council to commemorate the opening of the East Devon and Dorset coast line as an UNESCO World Heritage site. The 5 metre high sculpture stands on Orcombe point near Exmouth. There are nine different stones embedded onto the Portland stone structure, each section represents stone along the coast form East Devon to Dorset. Permian sandstone, White lias, Blue lias, Ham hill, Forest marble, Portland, Purbect marble and Beer stone. The top is capped with stainless steel which reflects the surroundings. 2002
